Robot, Racers,
Rebels

I have never been particularly generous with my art—nor particularly honest. I’ve often obscured the everyday with dense academic approaches. Even with this work, I have to resist myself heading down that road. Old habits die hard, and this work is partly about that—but mostly, it’s about fun.

The series began with a simple desire: to carve out a space within a vibrant online community. I wanted to be seen but not to much, while maintaining the freedom to create. The flat, colorful images in childhood math workbooks, often used to illustrate foundational concepts, served as my inspiration. Their simplicity, their bright backgrounds, and their ability to captivate a child's attention informed the way I approached my own work.

While my images aren't as stark or flat, they share a similar directness. This is a straightforward examination of toys as object. They are sculptural forms that are fun, yet carry deeper meaning and impact. In that sense, they earn the title: action figures.
